Elegy (In Avocado)

You smile so wide and wicked
You're easy to fall for
But you're nobody's pixie dream girl
And neither am I
Your laughter comes easy
You present yourself bare
But like all quickly built family
You leave, you leave, you leave
I'm not your boyfriend
I am your sister
Or maybe I'm just a friend
Or I'm not that either
Cuz you left me by myself
Paranoid and frightened
But we paint things and we sing things, silly things
So I'll let it slide
I presume to know you, really
So it's no surprise
How you gaze right through me, right past me
I'm a stand-in for another guy
And maybe that's okay
Because for now
You giggle so wildly
And run naked through the house

Molly Hates Peggy
04:15
|
|||
Here's a story that might sound crazy
but it's all true, maybe, so listen, baby
He cheated on her with a second lady
so they ditched the bastard, got together after
Then in just two weeks
Molly fell in deep, said “I'm yours to keep”
But Peggy soon lost sleep
she began to freak, said she got cold feet
All's I know is that they had a fight
Peggy left that night, and Molly saw the Light
Molly called her friends
but they were all Stephen’s; they wouldn't make amends
So she flew a rocketship straight into the sun
She got out the other side and shot creation from her gun
She found the interstellar mother Mary nun
and showed her a damn good time when she got inside and ai yai yai yai
She flew to the Twelfth Planet of Exceeding Bliss
then she swallowed a fistful of radiant photons
“What did you do?”
“I-i-i-i see the universe now
I see what I'm missing, and it's not a person, nah-ah
I-i-i-i see the universe now
but it's not what I'm after, and I'm coming down”
There's godrays stabbing in her eyes but
She has not quit her dumb Odyssey cuz she thinks
There's a point to all the pain
and we don't understand anymore
“I'll live for pleasure
I'll just burn hotter
I'll dig my own grave fast
and then we'll have a blast!”

The 101 is mucho fun
We’re basking in the Cali Sun
The 118 is like a dream
I think it’s more than just a fling
You know the 10 is hot as sin
It’s exactly how I like my men
And the 5, well, what a ride!
I’d like to see him on the side
I’m an Angelino girl
And I’ve got to love the road
I’m an Angelino girl
And I will die upon the freeway
Freeway
The sweet 14 is just the cream
I worship her like she’s my queen
The 405 is sanctified
Ever holy, full of life
I could 210 until the end
I think it is my closest friend
But the PCH was my first date
So maybe that one is my fate
I’m an Angelino girl
And I’ve got to love the road
I’m an Angelino girl
And I will die upon the freeway
Freeway
x2
Freeway
Freeway
Yeah

Sir Perceval
03:41
|
|||
He’d kill to get himself a job
To grease his elbows up
To wear his fingers down
To his honest bones
He’d die to get himself a name
To feel important once
To ease his aching heart
From staunch loneliness
He sees his future in the distant lands
He’s got a plan to ford past every river
Oh, Sir Perceval, if you ever get a moment to breathe
Close your eyes, just go to sleep
If I could be with you, I would be
When honeyed words drip from your lips
I can’t hear you when you speak softly
Oh my, what a dreamy guy
And yet, for all that he has planned
For every promise made
For all the debt he’s built
He still drags his feet
He says he hasn’t given up
He hasn’t had it fair
He hasn’t made the sin yet of
Standing still too long
He sees our kingdom in the distant land
He’s got a plan to conquer every mountain
Oh, Sir Perceval, if you ever get a moment to rest
Close your eyes, if you think it best
If I could be with you, I would be
When honeyed words drip from your lips
I can’t hear you when you speak softly
Oh my, what a dreamy guy
Fa la la
He sees our kingdom in the distant land
He’s got a plan to conquer every mountain
Oh, Sir Perceval, if you ever get a moment to breathe
Close your eyes, and go to sleep
Close your eyes, and go to sleep
Close your eyes, and go to sleep

Doctor Ghost
04:04
|
|||
As I was down in the old Devil’s Punchbowl
I met me a world-weary ghost
He said that he’d once been a doctor
A sawbones of no good repute
Sunset-colored nectarines grew
In the grove that fateful day
Her white-lace dress covered in dust
The smile long gone from her face
The doctor met a wandering girl
Who’d escaped so to live out her life
In return for her stories, he healed up her scars
And he asked if she might be his wife
The owls’ gold eyes glowed in the night
And they watched as blood soiled his coat
His bluff had been called, he'd gambled it all
Love, life, and death do us part
She had been taken, he had been dead
His practice provided no cure
So, he drank blood whiskey with the Devil
Thereafter he must here linger
I asked what became of the girl whom he loved
Smiling sadly, he shot me a wink
Then he glanced at the sun sinking into the earth
And disappeared without saying a thing
